Dell has refreshed the clamshell XPS 13 to feature Intel Tiger Lake CPU options, Evo specifications, and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. The XPS 13 9310 offers both FHD+ and UHD+ options and also comes in a Developer Edition pre-loaded with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.
Much like the 2020 XPS 13 9310 2-in-1, Dell has also refreshed the traditional clamshell XPS 13 with Intel Tiger Lake options, Evo specifications, and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity. The 2020 Dell XPS 13 9310 is also available as a Developer Edition and comes pre-installed with Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.
Similar to its predecessor, the 2020 XPS 13 9310 continues to sport a 13.4-inch 16:10 4-sided InfinityEdge panel that comes in FHD+ (1920×1200) and UHD+ (3840×2400) options. The UHD+ touch panel has a peak brightness of 500 nits and offers HDR400 and 100% sRGB + 90% DCI-P3 color gamut support with a 1500:1 contrast ratio. The FHD+ panel comes in both touch and non-touch variants.
Both the FHD+ panels offer 100% sRGB coverage and a 500-nit brightness. However, the non-touch variant lacks the 0.65% anti-reflective coating. All panels are Dolby Vision-certified and offer a 178-degree wide viewing angle along with Edge-to-edge Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection.
Dell offers two chassis variants for the XPS 13 9310 — a CNC machined aluminum in platinum silver with black carbon fiber composite palm rest and a CNC machined aluminum in frost with arctic white woven glass palm rest.
The 2020 XPS 13 9310 offers Intel Tiger Lake CPU options between the Core i3-1115G4, Core i5-1135G7, Core i7-1165G7, and the Core i7-1185G7. Up to 32 GB of LPDDR4X-4267 RAM is supported. However, the memory modules are soldered on to the motherboard. Storage options range from 256 GB to 2 TB PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSDs, which can be swapped out as needed. Unlike the XPS 13 9310 2-in-1, the XPS 13 9310 offers a traditional chiclet keyboard with 1.0 mm key travel.
Thermal design is similar to the last generation XPS 13 and includes a dual-fan system with a single heat pipe that features a single evaporator and dual condenser. GORE thermal insulation helps offer a cool operating experience.
Port selection gets an upgrade to Thunderbolt 4 with one of them on either side of the chassis. Dell ships a USB-C to USB-A adapter in the box as well. Also present are a microSD card reader and a 3.5 mm combo audio jack. Dell offers connectivity options between the Killer AX1650 Wi-Fi 6 chipset with Bluetooth 5.1 and the Killer AX500-DBS based on the Qualcomm 6390 chipset with Bluetooth 5 (available post launch).
The XPS 13 9310 continues to offer Project Sputnik features in the XPS 13 Developer Edition that enables Linux support for developers. While Dell has partnered with Ubuntu, users can install any preferred Linux distro as device drivers are pushed to the mainstream Linux kernel.
The Dell XPS 13 9310 will be available on September 30 in the U.S and Canada with prices starting from US$999.99. On launch day, the XPS 13 9310 and XPS 13 9310 Developer Edition will be initially available in the platinum silver edition with black carbon fiber palm rest. The arctic white woven glass palm rest variant will be available at a later date. Pricing for the XPS 13 9310 Developer Edition is not yet available.
